January Beauty Saviours

Happy New Year!

I had such a lovely Christmas, but drank way too much, ate way too much, slept with my makeup on way too much and generally abused my body in all sorts of ways. So come January my body is crying out for some loving so today I’m going to talk about some of my skin, hair and body savers that I have been loving this month!

HAIR

First up is Hair, which has been neglected and styled to within an inch of its thin life all December, so I desperately wanted to try and revive it and have been using these products.

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer

As you can see I have this humongous 1000 ml bottle as it was on offer on QVC a while back and I just love it. It helps repair and protect your hair from over styling and damage and restores elasticity (hence the name!) back into your hair. It’s a pre shampoo treatment and I find the longer you leave it on the better, even overnight and the results are super smooth hydrated hair! There are so many rave reviews about this product out there already so I’ll keep it short and sweet. Go try it!

Loreal Ever Riche Nourishing & Flowing Shampoo and Conditioner

I tried these the other day after reading so much good stuff about the range and I was not disappointed. Considering these are drugstore products I think they are fantastic. The first thing I noticed was the lovely smell, which is creamy and coconutty, almost vanillery…(think I’m making up a lot of words here) and I just loved it. The results are just as good as the smell – baby soft, smooth, hydrated hair without feeling weighed down. I actually end up having to put lots more product in my hair to gunk it all up after using it to get it into my usual messy updo as it’s just so soft – but that is no bad thing when your dry, damaged hair is crying out for attention!

FACE

For my face I wanted to use really hydrating, rich products that also wouldn’t make me into a grease ball or break me out and I have been loving one particular product this month for that.

REN Rose O12 Moisture Defence Oil

I am an oil convert! As I have very oily skin I’ve always steered well clear of oils, even though I’ve heard so many people bang on about oil being the best thing for oily skin. But….it actually seems to be the case?! You apply this under your moisturiser and it works like a serum to lock in moisture and give you radiance. My skin has never felt so soft and hydrated and once the oil has sunk in there is no left over oily residue or any evidence it was ever there, apart from amazingly glowly (note – NOT greasy) skin. Makeup has been going on like a dream, my skin feels and looks beautiful and it hasn’t broken me out. At. All. Which I found quite astonishing as I was convinced it would. My skin is actually better then it has ever been. REN is also a fantastic brand as you know there are no hidden nasties in there and everything is 100% natural. I bought this product for my mum for Christmas and have been stealing it ever since, so I think it’s time I went out and brought myself my own one.

Last but not least

BODY

Sanctuary Spa Body Brush

My skin has been looking so dull and dry since Christmas. I am a big one for hiding my legs away all winter and so thought I should try and get into some good body habits before summer rolls around and I have to bare them in their pale, grey glory. So I’ve been dry body brushing before my bath or shower with this little guy. It’s meant to boost circulation, improve lymphatic drainage and buff away all those dead skin cells. Since doing it regularly my skin has definitely been looking brighter and feeling smoother. I think it’s one of those things which you need to get into the habit of doing and try and keep it up, as there are so many benefits. It only takes a few minutes before you jump in the shower so there really is no excuse and I have really noticed the difference. Not quite summer ready, but getting there!

Happy January

Urban Decay Primer Potion

Ok,

So basically this little tube is one of my absolute holy grail products. I literally couldn't live without this as it changed for my life for the better when I started using it. Was that slightly over dramatic…?

If like me you have oily skin, and oily eyelids (which always sounds disgusting, but we gotta face the facts) you might also find that your skin EATS makeup. My eyes seem to absorb any product I put on them or it slides about across my face which is equally annoying and just does not last.

Urban Decay Primer Potion makes my makeup…..stay. And I mean really stay. When I go out and end up falling asleep with my makeup on (which happens all too often, oops!) I wake up and it is is still in place. Eyeliner flick and all which I find really quite incredible. For people out there with drier skin, the fact your makeup stays on all night might seem pretty normal but if like me you struggle this is seriously a lifesaver.

It comes in this little fancy tube which may I also add lasts for ages. My tube has been going strong for over a year and I have only just repurchased another one. I use the original primer potion and it is a silky, creamy formula which glides on and then dries down to be slightly tacky and then basically unnoticeable. It does not affect the application of my makeup at all and does not make blending difficult as some primers can do. The original formula is meant to dry pretty much clear and you can't notice any colour once it goes on. The shade Eden is more like concealer, giving an even colour all over the lid, Greed apparently gives a golden shimmer and Sin has champagne tinted shimmer - I can't actually comment on how effective those shades are as I haven't used them but definitely would like to try them in the future. The new tube I bought claims to be "anti ageing" but I really don't know how effective that will be, and honestly only bought it as they had sold out of the original. It claims to make a difference to fine lines in just 8 weeks but as I don't actually have many fine lines yet it's probably being wasted on me. But you're never too young to start fighting the ageing process!

I bought this tube for £17 and even though that sounds pretty expensive, as I said before it LASTS and WORKS so I really don't mind paying the money for it.

I have heard really good things about the NARS primer which I am yet to try, but for now I'm not straying from my old favourite. If you are in the market for a really good primer this totally lives up to the hype!
