Morning Super Smoothie

Today I thought I’d do a slightly different post on my morning smoothie!

I made this the other morning with my very helpful boyfriend taking pictures and thought I’d share it with you guys. I make a smoothie most mornings as it’s a great way to get some of your 5 a day in you, plus its really tasty and surprisingly filling – especially if you add some oats. Got my boyfriend hooked on making these too so here’s what I put in mine.

For fruit I started with some strawberries, blueberries and a banana. I always find a banana is a really good base for a smoothie as its thick and tasty and seems to make all smoothies nicer. They are high in potassium, B6 and are actually a good source of carbs so they help to keep you fuller. You can add any fruit you fancy as well as/instead of these, I sometimes add pineapple mango etc. and you can also use frozen fruit! Go crazy!

I then added some Kale and a squeeze of Lime. Both Lime and Kale contain loads of vitamin C, which “helps in the production of Carnitine which helps your body metabolise fat” so there you go! Whilst we are on the metabolism boosting benefits, I also chuck in a pinch of cayenne pepper, which a) gives it a spicy kick to wake you up and b) helps boost your metabolism.

Instead of Kale you can also add spinach, which works well, and both are great as they are dark green leaves with tons of vitamins and minerals.
Now I added milk to my smoothie but you could use non-fat Greek yogurt, soy milk or if you would rather feel free to use a juice instead such as apple or orange. Pretty much anything goes! The milk and yogurt have great pro biotic benefits and are a good source of calcium but equally juice is full of vitamins, just watch the sugar!!
I also put in my Actimel which I have every morning anyway so it’s just handy to chuck it in!
Add some ice at the end – bit of extra H20 -  and give it a good Whizz.

I’ve used the Ninja which I actually picked up off QVC (embarrassing) but it’s brilliant and not only works as a blender, it’s great for chopping things up such as onions etc., making salsa is a doddle and it’s super easy to use and clean. You can also get it with lots of fancy attachments for pretty much anything you can think of and I would highly recommend.
Here’s the super duper one here:

My smoothie, as you can see, came out pretty thick, creamy and yummy. You can alter the ingredients to make it taste fruiter, creamier, veggier?!... So just try and experiment!

Some extra things you can add which are really good for you are:

Echinacea - This is a fantastic immune booster and I used it a lot after having a bout of glandular fever (or mono as Americans call it.)

Ginger – a great anti oxidant and anti-inflammatory. Anyone with stomach problems, ginger is proven to help relieve and soothe any gastrointestinal distress.

Oats – These are fantastic to add as they release energy slowly to keep you fuller for longer and help keep your sugar levels much steadier through the morning.

Protein Powder – For those of you training or just trying to get some good muscle toneage you can add a protein powder which helps to pack on the muscle and will go down very well with gym buddies! Vanilla flavour ones are delicious!

Beetroot -  helps increase blood flow and is proven to help lower blood pressure and help fight heart disease - snazzy! (Plus it turns your smoothie an amazing colour…)

There you have it, I hope this has inspired someone out there to start making a morning smoothie! It really is SUCH a good way to start your day.

Enjoy!!!

Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow (On and On Bronze) Review

I picked this little guy up after seeing a few good reviews and being a sucker for goldy bronze eyeshadow and I really have fallen in love. I am a big fan of good cream formula's, I have a few firm favourites including my Benefit creaseless cream eyeshadow and MAC paint pots which I think are fab but the Maybelline alternative is also brilliant. I absolutely love the colour, I went for No. 35 On and On Bronze which I find the perfect bronze colour for me. It's not at all orangey (which i find some "bronze" shades tend to look) just a fantastic browny bronze. This "gel-cream" eyeshadow is a great formula which at first feels slightly greasy (not as bad as it sounds!) and is very blendable but then dries down to a great crease free metallic finish. It claims to last 24 hrs and even though I haven't actually tested it for the full 24 hours, it absolutely does not budge

This has found a regular spot in my makeup bag and I have found myself going for this eyeshadow nearly every day since I bought it. It's fantastic for lazy days as you can just whip this on on it's own, but it also works equally well under/with other eye shadows and helps make a smokey eye really stand out with the gorgeous metallic finish. I tend to wear it on it's own with a Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner cat eye flick which is so simple to do. It is very pigmented and you can build it up to the finish you desire.

The packaging is very similar to both the benefit and MAC products but does feel slightly cheaper to me. More plasticy and lighter but it doesn't bother me at all since it works so well. This retails at £4.99 which is much more affordable than the high end alternatives. Will definitely be purchasing more...

Sì by Giorgio Armani Perfume Review

I bought this perfume before checking out any reviews, as it was an impulse buy from Boots after instantly falling in love with it.  Even though I’ve read quite a few bad reviews since I have to say I love it! I love a sweet perfume; my past favourites have been Marc Jacobs – Lola, Victor and Rolf – Flowerbomb and DKNY – Be Delicious, Fresh Blossom. You can kind of see a floral fruity sweet theme going on there.
The Giorgio Armani website describes it as:

At once chic, voluptuous, intense, and soft, Sì lingers on the skin and enchants the senses. The distinguished and elegant olfactory result plays on emotion, true to the Giorgio Armani couture spirit. The perfume combines 3 notes: blackcurrant nectar, modern chypre, and blond wood musk with touches of freesia and May rose. This new fragrance reveals a free, passionate, loving, and vibrant woman.

I do agree with that description (why are perfume descriptions so over the top though?!) but I have to say it is a very sweet scent that might not be to everyone’s liking. I’m not sure I would describe it as “chic” but it is definitely intense and absolutely gorgeous. I would say it is sweet, feminine and youthful. You can smell the floral notes coming through and I’m not exactly sure about the “blackcurrant” but there is definitely a strong fruity top note that I love. I actually find this really long lasting and dries down to a lovely musky finish with hints of vanilla.
The look of the bottle is expensive with the gold trim and the very solid black lid which you would hope to expect from a high end brand such as Giorgio Armani, plus the actual liquid is a lovely rosey/blush colour and it looks great on my dressing table lined up with my other perfumes.
I bought the 50ml for £59.00 in boots and it came with a cheeky free clutch bag which was quite nice of them!

This perfume is clearly not to everyone’s liking but if you are into sweet, fruity and floral fragrances this is a definite must!

Lipstick Lipstick Lipstick Lipstick

(From top working clockwise)
Topshop - INFRARED £8
Mac - PINK NOUVEAU £15
Mac - RUSSIAN RED £15
Mac - IMPASSIONED £15

So...
As an absolute beauty junkie I thought I would do some makeup and beauty posts too.
I wear lipstick most of the time when going out even though I find it very high maintenance to wear as I almost always go for a bright lip and there is serious danger of smudging onto the face/chin or when it rubs off the centre and leaves you with a really attractive ring round the outside. None the less! I am still committed to lipstick. So here are 4 fairly recent additions to my lipstick collection which I thought I would talk about.

So first up is Topshop - Infrared
I have a couple of topshop lipsticks including Brighton rock and an incredible lip crayon (but that will be a different post)
I'm not a huge fan of the texture of these lipsticks. I get dry lips quite a lot and find these abit of a nightmare for sticking to it. The colour is a bright orangey tone which I imagine would be far more flattering on tanned skin and I don't think it actually does much for me but can imagine it looking great on someone else. They are a pretty good price for £8 and they have a  great colour selection which is definitely worth checking out. (As a little side note, the topshop packaging gets really grubby looking in your makeup bag)

Next is Mac - Pink Nouveau.
Now Mac lipsticks are definitely my favourite I have tried so far. I find the colour selection amazing and I love (most, not all) the formulations. This one is a satin finish which is creamy with a high colour pay off but has a semi matte finish and is probably one of my least favourite formulations. I do find (even though it's creamy?) it is quite drying, especially after wearing it for a little while so make sure you have some lip balm handy. The colour is a cool toned pink, and is a perfect bright barbie colour and it also does last. It has a tendency to make teeth look yellow though so beware! The Mac lipsticks are expensive but for me are definitely worth it, as long as you pick the right shades for you.

Mac Russian Red is my absolute favourite favourite favourite. It has a permanent spot in my makeup bag and it's my go to most of the time. It instantly transforms your look and is the perfect bluey undertone deep red for me. I find it is the most flattering shade by a mile out of these lipsticks and really works on my fair skin but i'm sure it would also be flattering on most skintones. It is a matte finish which is obviously...matte. With no shimmer, glossyness etc. but it means the staying power is great (I have just tested it on my hand and literally can't get it off now) and I think a matte red lip looks amazing. Again make sure your lips are in pretty good condition before using this - I tend to use carmex underneath this and a little bit over the top if I feel it's drying out slightly or want to apply abit more. Incredibly pigmented, flattering, classic red. You really can't go wrong!

Last but not least is Mac - Impassioned which is an Amplified formula which as the name implies is seriously bright and almost neon?! It is a "amped up fuscia" according to Mac and that's pretty much right. This has incredible colour pay off whilst being really nice to wear on your lips. The most forgiving in terms of dry lips and what not and super bright and generally fantastic. Even though it's bright it's pretty wearable as it's actually a very flattering shade and I would definitely recommend, especially for a special occasion.

Primary Colours

Hat - Primark
Top - Topshop
Jeans - Leigh Topshop Jeans
Bag - Primark
Shoes - Carvela

Ok...so not been so great on the 'ol blog front.
Thought I'd start off again by posting an outfit I wore recently.
It was an impromptu photo shoot with my boyfriend as I was modelling a t-shirt from his cousins range called Karabu Clothing http://www.karabu.co.uk/

You can see for yourself if you check out the website but it's kind of a skate brand, and he makes some really cool tie dye stuff which I am wearing in the second picture. It's a t-shirt which I wore as a dress with my Topshop Cut Out Boots which I love and literally wear with everything. Super comfortable and perfect heel height.

My other outfit was a random mash up which I quickly put together for Andy to take a photograph.
I absolutely loved that bag but it broke ridiculously quickly and it's actually now in the bin, which is very upsetting, but it was Primark...

These shoes are absolutely beautiful and remind me of red Dorothy shoes as they have a sparkly red bow on the toe but they are SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I have only worn them once to dinner, when I hobbled in quickly and hobbled out into a car and even then was in agony. Not very practical but very pretty.

I have also just moved house out into the country which is very scary but also rather lovely. So here's a little picture of our view. Proper Country!!
